A good WiFi router is the difference between internet that keeps up with your day and a connection that drops every time someone joins a video call. Whether you want portable internet for travel or a fixed connection for your whole home, Yas Tanzania has a device to match. This guide walks through the best WiFi routers in Tanzania, their prices and features, how to set them up, and how to pick the right one for your needs.

Types of WiFi Routers in Tanzania

Before you buy, it helps to know the three main types of router and who each one suits:

  • Pocket WiFi and MiFi devices. Small, battery powered routers you can carry anywhere. Best for travel, students, and sharing internet with a few devices on the go.
  • 4G and 5G home routers. Larger routers that plug into power and turn the mobile network into a home WiFi network. Best for households and offices without a fibre line.
  • Fibre routers. Used where a wired fibre connection is available, offering the most stable speeds for heavy use.

Best WiFi Routers from Yas

Here are the top router and portable internet options available through Yas, with current prices.

Device Type Best For Price (TZS)
MiFi M016T Portable MiFi Travel and light home use 70,000
ZTE G5TS Pocket router Personal and small group use 250,000
ZTE A76 5G 5G phone with hotspot Fast portable internet 380,000
5G Home Router Fixed wireless home internet Whole home and office Sold with home plan

MiFi M016T

The MiFi M016T is the most affordable way to get portable WiFi from Yas at 70,000 TZS. It is small enough to fit in a pocket, runs on its own battery, and lets several devices share one connection. It is a solid pick for students and anyone who needs internet in more than one place. See it on the Yas devices store.

ZTE G5TS

The ZTE G5TS is a dedicated pocket router built for steady sharing. Unlike a phone hotspot, which drains your battery and heats up under load, a dedicated router is made to run all day. At 250,000 TZS it suits users who want reliable portable internet for work and study. We cover portable options in depth in our guide to the best pocket WiFi in Tanzania.

ZTE A76 5G

If you want a phone and a hotspot in one, the ZTE A76 5G connects to the Yas 5G network and shares that fast connection with your other devices. At 380,000 TZS it is a flexible choice for anyone who wants both a smartphone and portable internet without carrying two devices.

5G Home Router

For a full home connection, a 5G home router delivers whole home WiFi over the mobile network. It supports many devices at once and can rival entry level fibre where 5G coverage is strong. Yas sells it as part of a home plan rather than as a standalone device. Read our Yas 5G router review to see how it performs for streaming, calls, and gaming, and check whether 5G has reached you in our Yas 5G coverage guide.

Yas Home Internet Plans for Your Router

A router needs a data plan behind it. Yas offers two home internet options with unlimited data:

Plan Network Speed Starting Price (TZS)
Fibre Home Fibre Up to 100 Mbps 55,000
4G/5G Home 4G or 5G Depends on coverage 70,000

Fibre Home offers the most stable connection with low latency where cables are available, while 4G/5G Home is the best choice for areas without a fibre line. Compare both on the Yas home plans page. If you prefer mobile data instead, see our list of the latest Yas internet bundles and prices.

How to Set Up Your WiFi Router at Home

Setting up a Yas router takes only a few minutes:

  1. Insert your SIM. Place the Yas SIM into the router slot while the device is switched off.
  2. Power it on. Connect the router to power for a home unit, or charge the battery for a portable one, then switch it on.
  3. Wait for signal. Give the router a moment to find the network. The signal light shows when it is connected.
  4. Connect your devices. Find the default WiFi name and password printed on the router or in its manual, then connect your phone or laptop.
  5. Personalise your network. Open the router dashboard in a web browser to change the WiFi name and password to something you will remember and that keeps your connection secure.

How to Choose the Right Router

Use these questions to match a router to your needs:

  • How many devices will connect? A pocket router suits a few devices, while a home router handles ten or more at once.
  • Do you need to move it around? Choose a battery powered MiFi or pocket router for travel, and a plug in home router for a fixed connection.
  • Is fibre available at your address? If yes, Fibre Home gives the most stable speeds. If not, a 4G or 5G router is the best route to fast home internet.
  • What is your budget? The MiFi M016T is the entry point at 70,000 TZS, while 5G devices cost more but deliver higher speeds.

How to Recharge and Manage Your Router

Keeping your router online is simple. Top up the SIM inside it with a data bundle using *147*00#, or manage everything from the Mixx by Yas app, where you can buy bundles and pay from your wallet. To keep an eye on how much data you have left, follow the steps in our guide on how to check your Yas airtime, data and SMS balance.
